Highly digestible grains
All of the grains used in St. Hippolyt’s feeds are carefully cleaned and washed before processing, and any dirt attached to them is removed. The germination processes inherent in the fully ripened grains are then reactivated by soaking them in tempered water. This process also activates the grain’s enzymes. These enzymes, of which there are countless numbers, then decompose most of the starch and protein inside the grain. Once this process is completed, the grain is hydrothermally decomposed using steam, rolled and dried – thus creating easily digestible, extremely high-quality cereal flakes that are ideally suited to horses’ sensitive digestive systems.
Concentrated nutrients
St. Hippolyt’s approach to equine nutrition is to keep things as natural as possible and, in keeping with this principle, it uses a vast and diverse range of ingredients that are rich in vital nutrients and naturally increase the nutritional value of its products. These ingredients include maize germ, wheat germ, meadow barley, wheatgrass, components derived from grapes and black cumin, as well as ocean derived ingredients, such as algae, coral limestone, seafood, and sea and Himalayan salt. Our products are furthermore enriched with calcitic lime from Brittany, which is a pure form of calcium, as well as magnesium and typical sea minerals such as bromine and iodine, a diverse range of fruit and vegetable extracts, including fibre – to aid digestion – and varied range of phytochemicals.
Herbs – In keeping with the seasons
We, at St. Hippolyt, are all in favour of herbs! Which is why most of our horse feeds are enriched with a wide variety of different, seasonal, high-quality and nutritious herbs. Because, apart from adding nutritional value, herbs also add flavour and have extremely beneficial pharmacological properties. However, even more importantly, they also contain a high level of phytochemicals, trace and even ultratrace elements – making them irreplaceable when it comes to formulating highly efficient horse feeds. Herbs can furthermore help to regulate a horse’s metabolism and thus increase overall wellbeing and their enjoyment of their workouts.
Oils galore
All of St. Hippolyt’s complete feeds are – according to their primary uses - enriched with cold-pressed vegetable oils that are produced using sedimentation. This process protects the wealth of essential fatty acids, Omega 3 fatty acids and phytochemicals contained in flaxseed, sunflower seeds, maize, wheatgerm and black cumin seeds, which tend to become oxidised when using conventional oil production methods, and makes them loose most of their nutritional value.
Biofermented products
Vinegar derived from malt not only tastes great, but is also a natural preservative. It improves digestion and nutrient uptake, and boosts general immunity. The mash created during vinegar production is also a result of organic grain fermentation. During mashing, the malt is activated by the addition of water. The subsequently resulting enzymatic reactions then give rise to the creation of substances that not only stimulate appetite and promote digestion, but also strengthen the immune system and make the entire feed ration more digestible. The fresh yeast created during some fermentation processes is also a rich source of B vitamins, ß-glucan and nucleotides, which are all vital to energy production and good digestion. The use of autolyse in these production processes helps to preserve a great range of vital substances compared to the use of heat.
Whole and natural
The advantages of using natural and organic minerals and certain combinations of trace elements have more than proven themselves over years and years of feed experimentation. However, keeping feeds wholesome and natural also means not using any artificial flavourings, binding agents and preservatives, and to use herbs, garlic, vitamins, malt vinegar and molasses as natural preservatives.
Whole food production methods
All of the individual ingredients used in St. Hippolyt’s horse feeds are processed in such a way as to preserve their integrity to the greatest extent possible, and at temperatures below 40°C, in order to preserve their nutrients such as vitamins, enzymes, mucilage and phytochemicals, so as to make them available to horses through their feed.
Cost effectiveness
St. Hippolyt complete feeds can be used in highly cost effective ways. Being easy to digest and rich in nutrients, they are all very filling and continuously boost raw fibre digestion. Their high content of organically bound nutrients furthermore means that even small quantities of St. Hippolyt complete feeds will adequately cover a horse’s basic nutritional requirements.
However, St. Hippolyt never stops to refine its complete feeds and is continuously adapting and improving its horse feed formulas in line with the latest scientific findings. This also applies to St. Hippolyt’s Struktur-Energetikum, which has proven itself as a number one product over years of continuous use. Struktur-Energetikum is a feed concentrate that is extremely rich in vital nutrients, contains a great variety of different herbs, and has an efficiently balanced protein and starch content – it also never ceases to impress thanks to the visionary farsightedness that inspired its creation.
One of the latest of St. Hippolyt’s new product ranges is St. Hippolyt International Sports, which St. Hippolyt developed in collaboration with the Kentucky Equine Research Institute (KER), in line with the latest developments in sports medicine and on the basis of existing, well-proven feed technologies. Since its launch, International Sports has become extremely popular with amateur as well as professional equestrian sportsmen and women.
