Energy requirements tend to diminish with increasing age, because, the older a horse, the less, in general, it is worked. In some cases, however, it may be health-related issues rather than age that keep older horses from being worked as much as younger ones. Overall, it is vital that this drop in energy requirements is not mistaken for a drop in a horse’s requirements for vital nutrients and, in particular, trace elements.

The perfect anti-aging strategy
“Beste Jahre” Vital Nutrient Muesli is one of the best choices one could ever make when it comes to selecting a feed for an older horse. It’s high fibre and herb content will adequately balance any roughage intake deficiencies, and its high cold-pressed oil content, diverse range of vital nutrients and trace elements, provide an ample supply of vital nutrients. This creates a sound basis from which to counteract any age-related nutritional deficiencies that might otherwise result in allergies, eczema, chronic bronchitis and digestive complaints. A feed ration of 2 kg “Beste Jahre” Vital Nutrient Muesli a day is therefore ideally suited as a feed for stabled, sensitive and demanding horses, while a daily feed ration of 1 kg a day will more than adequately cover the nutritional requirements of smaller horses and ponies.

Feed rationing example:
24-year old gelding, 560 kg, former show horse, now regularly put to pasture and ridden:

• Unlimited hay and straw
• 1.5 – 2.5 kg  “Beste Jahre” Vital Nutrient Muesli for covering essential nutrient
   requirements
• 1 - 2 kg oats for covering any increases in energy requirements as and when required.
